An astrological chart is a “map” of the sky at the exact time and location of your birth. When someone asks what your “sign” is, what they are asking is what sign the Sun was in when you were born.
The signs in Western astrology are based not on the actual constellations but by the seasons, so that 0 degrees Aries, the beginning of the zodiac, always begins on the Spring Equinox on March 21. Because there are 30 degrees in each sign and this does not match up with our calendar, the dates of each sign vary slightly from year to year. Therefore, if you were born on the first or last day of your sign according to the standard dates given for each sign, you may actually be a different sign than you thought.
